An STI test is often advertised with a single low figure. But that figure rarely covers the whole journey. That is why we rank providers on the total price on a positive result: test, consult, result discussion and treatment together.
The free routes: GGD and GP
At the GGD (Centre for Sexual Health) testing is free, but only if you fall in a priority group. Otherwise the GGD refers you to your GP. Bear in mind waiting times too, which have grown in many regions since 2025.

Deductible: the hidden GP cost
The GP consult itself is free — GP care sits outside the deductible. But the lab work the GP orders does count toward your deductible, which is €385 in 2026. An STI test at the GP therefore quickly costs €40 to €150 in lab fees. Already used up your deductible that year? Then testing via the GP is virtually free.
Private clinics and home tests
Private clinics and home tests are not covered by basic insurance: you pay everything yourself and your deductible is irrelevant. A simple home test starts around €36; broader panels run to €60–€200. The kit price usually covers only the test — not the consult, the result discussion or treatment.
The hidden cost: treatment
A positive result brings costs the test price rarely includes. Antibiotics for chlamydia via the pharmacy cost roughly €12–€28; a separate treatment consult at a private clinic €50–€130. At ZIZ and the GGD treatment is automatically in the price — at most other providers you pay it separately on top.
